Zermatt Unplugged entertains with spectacular concerts for Christmas

Zermatt Unplugged Fans of the popular Zermatt Unplugged festival that arrives each spring in this Matterhorn ski resort will be overjoyed to discover that they are offering a season opening session during Christmas week for the second year in a row.  The annual music event is held in April each year in Zermatt but organizers decided to hold special concerts at Christmas to kick off the season and give everyone a taste of what they can expect in April. Each year, thousands of people descend on Zermatt hotels and fill every Zermatt accommodation to celebrate with world-renowned artists.  This year, they will have the opportunity to come in December to get a preview of the fantastic artists that make Zermatt Unplugged one of the most popular music festivals in the world.

There will be three special performances during Christmas week and guests can purchase advance tickets for Zermatt Unplugged 2014.

“A Venetian Christmas” by Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672) will be performed by the Bach Collegium Zürich with renowned violinist John Holloway.  The perfect blend of voices and instruments will present a dramatic, beautiful symphony of sounds to lift your spirits.  The concert will be held on December 27 in the parish church of St. Mauritius.  If you love the polychoral sounds of the Renaissance and the Early Baroque, this concert is one that you do not want to miss.

James Walsh, a fan favorite from the first Zermatt Unplugged in 2007 and from his performances in 2010, 2011 and 2012, will also appear at the opening season on December 27 for a one-night concert.  For this opening season performance, Walsh will perform with drummer Ben Kennedy and bassist Diego Rodriguez at the Vernissage at 10pm.  It is expected to be a sold-out concert as Walsh is a very talented artist that is loved by many – – buy your tickets early (and plan to attend the after-show party that goes until 3:30 a.m.).

Marlon Roudette and his band will return to bring easy-going Caribbean vibes to the most popular Swiss Alps ski resort once again.  This talented Englishman draws from his Caribbean roots to create magic.  His concert at Vernissage in April last year was a fan favorite.  Roudette will be returning to the Vernissage for his season opening concert on December 28 (tickets will go fast for this concert too so buy early and stay late for the after-show party).  If you missed his performance at last year’s Zermatt Unplugged, do not miss the opportunity to see why everyone was talking about this guy.
