Whether your goal to take in the sights, spend some time shopping, or enjoy the skiing and other outdoor sports, you will never be bored in Zermatt Switzerland. However, before you even set foot in the country, you should have a place to stay, especially during the winter months when the tourist season is in high swing.
There are a number of thing to look for in a Zermatt hotel, including its location (it should be close to the slopes, if that’s your goal) and its amenities. Some hotels offer everything from free Wi-Fi to meals, while others come complete with saunas and sun rooms. Here are three worth checking into.
1) Hotel Bristol – This hotel is located in the central section of Zermatt, and boasts about being between the Klein Matterhorn cable car, which takes you to the top of the peak, and the train station, so that no matter where you want to go, you won’t have to travel far to find transportation. The Bristol offers beautiful views of the Matterhorn year-round, and sells lift tickets at the front desk during prime ski months. There is also a sauna, game room and lounge on site.
2) Alpenlodge – Located a mere five minutes away from several different lifts and train stations, you can reach numerous different ski spots from the Alpenlodge. If you plan on going when the weather is too warm for skiing, the hotel is near a golf course, as well as hiking and cycling paths. Of course, if relaxing is more your thing, there is a Zen Spa on the premises, complete with a steam bath and sauna, plus a lounge where cakes, tea and coffee is served for free during ski season.
3) Mont Cervin Palace – Like its name, Mont Cervin Palace is a 5-star hotel that boasts of being one of the “Leading Hotels in the World.” This architectural gem was built in 1851, and has great views of the Matterhorn from every south-facing room. Some of the suites come complete with hot tubs or fireplaces, making it tempting to never leave. However, once you do, Mont Cervin Palace’s central location is close to shopping, skiing, other outdoor activities and various restaurants. Speaking of restaurants – this hotel features the Grill Le Cervin on its premises, so make sure to pack a jacket and tie, as well as your sports gear.
